Righteousness

Righteousness mean being in right standing with God. In other words being at peace with God. This is a free gift only available through believing in Jesus Christ ( Romans 3 v 21-22). God reconciled himself to us and us to him though the sacrifice of His son ( Romans 5 v 1-2). He made us in his image ( Genesis 1 v27 ) so that he could have a personal relationship with him. Adam’s sin created a gulf between us and God that could only be overcome by someone who had never sinned paying the penalty for this. This is what Jesus did for us when he went to the cross. It means that we can approach God without fear knowing that He loves us (Hebrews 4 v 16).
